Research documents

In our First Aid program all participants are offered the opportunity to challenge assessment by completing written and practical assessment. If the participant has the knowledge and skill to complete competency in HLTFA301B Apply First Aid then upon completion of the assessment challenge the participant will be marked competent if all elements and performance criteria in the unit of competency's assessment criteria have been met.

Currency of Qualification

Currency of first aid knowledge and skills is to be demonstrated in line with State/Territory regulations, legislation and policies, ARC and industry guidelines

ARC current guidelines are that HLTFA301B Apply First Aid should be re-assessed every 3 years and HLTCPR201A Perform CPR should be re-assessed every year.

Course Costs

  • Recommended HLTFA301B Apply First Aid cost is $120 per person for Public Courses.
  • 2 Day Private Course recommended cost is $150 per person with minimum 10 people.
  • HLTCPR201A Perform CPR cost is $40 per person

Context and resources required for assessment:

Skills in performing first aid procedures are to be assessed through demonstration, with questioning to confirm essential knowledge

For assessment purposes, demonstration of skills in CPR procedures requires using a model of the human body (resuscitation manikin) in line with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines

We have adopted Guideline 9.5.2 Evaluation of CPR Training Manikins from the Australian Resuscitation Council.

Manikins which are approved by ProSkills:

There are 2 brands which fully comply with these standards. They are the Ambu Manikins and the Laerdal Manikins meet the requirements.

Some other Manikins may comply and will be added to this list once we have tested the manikins and are satisfied that they are suitable.

Ratio of Manikins to Participants:

You must have at least:
  • One (1) adult manikin for every 3 participants on the course. Example if there are only 3 Adult manikins then your course maximum number must be 9 participants.
  • One (1) child manikin for every 5 participants on the course.
  • One (1) infant (baby) manikin for every 5 participants on the course.
  • If you do not have any child or infant manikins then you cannot run a ProSkills course.
